The $2,500 grant was awarded by KELOLAND Media Group General Manager Jay Huizenga. The grant goes to a classroom taught by a team of two teachers. Students will be able to buy lab supplies for experiments, as well as a class set of books.
"They are going to grow plants, and they're going to test different variables that affect plant growth in order to eventually design a garden for Mars, kind of like how the main character in The Martian grows potatoes on Mars," New Tech High School teacher Melissa Hittner said.
The kids will put this grant to use this fall.
